I predicted that Susan Boyle would sing the “Memory” right at Britain Got Talent!

I predicted one month ago that Susan Boyle would sing “Memory” from the “Cats” (Which song and from which musical Susan Boyle will perform next time?). And guess what, this Sunday she performed it!!! I am so proud of her and myself because I predicted it right and it shows I am good at show business.

So please, if someone needs such a good person at show business as me you can contact me at my email and offer me a job. You won’t regret! :)

Rock of Ages: are you serious?

I saw “Rock of Ages” recently and was really disappointed. I have only one question: is it joke they got nominated for Tony Awards for the best musical? A bunch of rock hits from the 80s (or somewhere from long long time ago, whatever), which is barely connected with the plot.

It’s the first show in my life I wanted to leave during the intermission ever. I even threw away my Playbill for the first time in my life. Well, I guess that’s because I was born in the 80s, but wasn’t teenager that time. So most of the songs are not familiar to me. Perhaps people over 40 who liked (and/or like now) rock music in their teens would like it, or younger folks who just like rock music of the 80s. But for me it was just a bunch of unfamiliar and extremely loud songs.

These shows are still running on West End!

Do you miss “Hairspray”, “Spring Awakening”, “Grease”, “Legally Blonde” or “Les Miserables” on Broadway or do you want to see those shows again so badly? Not a problem! These shows are still running in London and you can catch them there!

I would love to see “Legally Blonde” again. And I haven’t seen the “Grease” live on stage yet! Shame on me! Oh well, I hope by the time I am actually in London those shows still will be running.

If you don’t know what show(s) you want to see you can browse the web site West End Theatre Tickets where you can find information about all the West End shows and choose one or a couple you like more.

As I already said I would chose “Legally Blonde” because I saw it only once and just fell in love in that musical! Such an inspiring show, so much feelings end emotions! And unbelievable catchy music and lyrics! And “Grease” because I missed it on Broadway and just want to see it live on stage. Oh and I often sing “Hopelessly devoted to you”, because my heart is broken so often. Ehhh…

Actually I want to see “Hairspray” again too, because very often I wake up with the song “Good morning, Baltimore” in my head and then play it loud on my computer and then all the neighbors and roommate wake up. :)

I am for Billy Elliot! Tony Awards 2009.

So nominees for the best musical of the year are: Billy Elliot, Next to Normal, Rock Of Ages and Shrek the musical!

I haven’t seen Rock of Ages and Shrek yet, but I don’t think even if I see the shows my opinion will change. Rock of Ages doesn’t have original songs, I am sure I will like it (I love rock musicals) but for the Best Musical of the year I need something more. Shrek – it’s Shrek. Next to normal is good, very good and very depressing for me.

No, it’s good - Broadway has to have different types of musicals (like there are different types of movies) - like musical comedy, drama, thriller, physiological drama and so on. And I agree that”Next to normal” is good in its own genre. I would call it “physiological drama”. But again, it doesn’t have choreography and it’s too heavy, too depressing.

Billy Elliot, on the other hand, has everything Broadway Musical should have: Great touching and inspiring story, a lot of amazing dancing numbers, great songs which make you dance on your seats. And a lot of moments where you can cry. And by the way it’s drama too. Sometimes it’s even emotionally similar to “Next to normal” – I mean relationships of Billy with his mother (who knows the story and watched both of the musicals those people will understand me).

I think that Billy got 15 nominations (and shared the record with the musical “Producers”) for reason and I hope it wins.

I want to visit London so badly!

I love musical theatre as you know, and I saw a lot of show on Broadway, but looks like New York City is getting small for me. I want to visit London and see all the best West End musicals there. London has so many interesting shows I want to see that you can’t even imagine. And it’s not that expensive as I thought before. For example, recently I have found one web site which offers West End shows and hotel packages called "West End Theatre Breaks", and discovered a lot of interesting shows there. So let me introduce you 5 West End shows I want to see:

    Oliver!

I always wanted to see a professional production of this amazing musical on Broadway or West End, but since there is no any production on Broadway, I really want to see it in London. I hear the production of the musical in West End is just amazing.

Joseph And the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Another great classic musical I want to see live. I already mentioned love to this musical in one of my previous posts. My love to musical theatre started from Andrew Lloyd Webber, and tunes of that musical will always be in my head. Especially such songs like “Any Dream Will Do” or “Prologue” or “Close Every Door”. This show closing on May 30st 2009, but I am sure there will be a lot of revival of that musical and I will see it live on stage.

    Sunset Boulevard.

This musical was among first musicals that inspired me (yeah, not surprising, it’s Andrew Lloyd Webber too). I like a lot of songs from that musical, but my favorite (and I bet not only my) is “With one look”. And another song – “As if we never said goodbye” – it’s so touching and emotional that my soul flies away every time when I listen it.

    We Will Rock You.

I saw this musical in St. Petersburg, Russia, in Russian language and it was exciting experience. I am sure that West End production of that musical is even much more exciting. It really rocks and I would like to watch it on West End some day!

    Les Miserables.

I saw the last revival of the show on Broadway 2 times. But I want to see it also in London. I heard from some people that West End Production is much better than the last revival on Broadway. So if I liked what I saw on Broadway can’t even imagine how I will like what I will see on West End! All the time I see the musical I cry. It’s beautiful, tragic and touching story and definitely worth to see in London!

That was the list of 5 musicals I would see first in London. I hope soon my little dream will come true and I’ll be able to compare the magic of Broadway with magic of West End!
